DynaFilter®

Continuous Backwash Filter

The Parkson DynaFilter® ’s innovative design and continuous self-cleaning operation make it an ideal choice for achieving high-efficiency filtration with minimal maintenance. Its ability to provide consistent, high-quality effluent ensures reliable performance in a variety of wastewater treatment applications.

The DynaFilter® is a continuous upflow, deep bed, granular media filter. It is designed to provide high-quality filtration with minimal operator intervention, ensuring consistent performance in a variety of wastewater treatment applications.

Comparison with Rapid Gravity Filters

Backwashing Requirements: Rapid Gravity Filters require periodic backwashing to clean the filter media, which interrupts the filtration process and consumes significant amounts of water and energy. In contrast, the DynaSand® Filter’s continuous self-cleaning mechanism eliminates the need for backwashing, providing uninterrupted filtration.

Operational Efficiency: The continuous operation and low maintenance requirements of the DynaSand® Filter enhance its operational efficiency, reducing the need for manual intervention and downtime associated with backwashing in Rapid Gravity Filters.

Comparison with Multimedia Pressurized Sand Filters

Energy Consumption: Multimedia Pressurized Sand Filters typically require high-pressure pumps to force water through the media bed, resulting in higher energy consumption. The DynaSand® Filter operates with a low-energy airlift pump for sand cleaning, reducing overall energy usage.

Media Longevity: The continuous sand cleaning process in the DynaSand® Filter extends the lifespan of the filter media, whereas the high pressure and backwashing cycles in Multimedia Pressurized Sand Filters can lead to faster media degradation and more frequent replacements.

Key Steps

Influent Entry and Initial Filtration

  • The influent wastewater enters the filter through an influent pipe located at the bottom of the filter unit.
  • The wastewater is distributed evenly across the bottom of the sand bed, ensuring uniform flow and maximizing the filter’s effectiveness.

Upflow Filtration

  • The wastewater flows upwards through the sand bed, passing through the granular media where particulate matter and impurities are trapped.
  • The clean, filtered water rises to the top of the filter unit and is collected in the effluent launder for discharge or further treatment.

Continuous Sand Cleaning and Recycling

  • The key feature of the DynaSand® Filter is its continuous self-cleaning mechanism. As filtration occurs, dirty sand (laden with captured particulates) is drawn from the bottom of the sand bed into an airlift pump.
  • The airlift pump conveys the dirty sand to the sand washer located at the top of the filter.
  • In the sand washer, the dirty sand is cleaned by a countercurrent flow of water. The heavier sand particles settle back into the sand bed, while the lighter contaminants are carried away by the wash water and removed from the system.

Effluent Discharge

  • The filtered water, now free from particulate matter and impurities, exits the filter through the effluent launder.

Features and Benefits

Consistent Filtration Quality

The continuous upflow design ensures steady removal of particulates, providing consistently high-quality effluent.

No Need for Backwashing

Unlike Rapid Gravity Filters and Multimedia Pressurized Sand Filters, the DynaSand® Filter does not require periodic backwashing, which reduces operational interruptions and maintenance efforts.

Uninterrupted Operation

The self-cleaning system allows for continuous filtration, ensuring a constant supply of treated water without the need for shutdowns for cleaning.

Lower Operational Costs

Reduced energy consumption translates into lower operational costs compared to the energy-intensive backwashing processes required by Rapid Gravity Filters and Multimedia Pressurized Sand Filters.

Environmental Sustainability

The energy-efficient design contributes to the sustainability goals of the facility, reducing its overall environmental impact.

Superior Water Quality

The fine sand media provides excellent removal of suspended solids, resulting in superior water clarity and quality.

Versatility

The high filtration efficiency makes the DynaSand® Filter suitable for a wide range of applications, including municipal, industrial, and process water treatment.

Minimal moving parts and a robust self-cleaning mechanism

The DynaSand® Filter requires less maintenance compared to other filtration systems.

Reduced Downtime

The low maintenance requirements minimize operational downtime, ensuring continuous and reliable performance.

Cost Savings

Lower maintenance needs result in cost savings over the lifespan of the filter, making it an economically attractive option.
